Prices Up But Volatile A review of global market performance in H1 2010 shows that copper prices were driven more by developments in the global economy than by physical market fundamentals.
Copper prices are highly cyclical and volatile in nature, subject to global fundamental supply/demand considerations, as well as to speculative influences of commodity hedge funds and commodity trading advisors.
In October, however, the leading U.S. producer announced that the drop in copper prices and rising production costs would lead to revaluation of its planned global expansions.
